SHAHID PRESIDENT ZIAUR RAHMAN (1936-1981), THE FOUNDER OF BNP
Ziaur Rahman was an unknown name to the people. But he became an instant national figure when he, on behalf of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at declared Bangladesh’s independence on 27 March from the radio station of Kalurghat in Chittagong. His declaration goes: “I Major Zia, Provisional Commander-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Liberation Army, hereby proclaim, on behalf of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the independence of Bangladesh”.
