Some of these fixes require you to unzip the game and patch the game. This is done using 7Zip (must be on your system) or winrar. Most users just have Winrar installed and then it will defend the download. So It’s up to the user to make sure he unzips the game in some folder, run the patches and then make sure everything is ok and then move the game into the game folder, or preload it with your game. Maybe it will fix the error and then you can play it? Also it’s best not to have it use the hard drive space. I have over 3 gigs free on my HDD so I don’t mind, but most people don’t have this luxury.
Once you have the patch and have run it, then you will have to stop it. Because ect uses like 64mb of ram, I had to increase the amount of memory and then do a clean reboot, and then it will get even more ram. If you have less than 4 gigs, then you can try playing it without the patches, or if you have more than 4 gigs, then you have to use the patches to play it. It’s basically a program made for people that have a small amount of ram. It’s also using some special Windows memory, so if you have 2-3 gigs of ram, you won’t be able to use it. I think you need 5 x 2 gigs of RAM.
If you’re an owner of both game, I would have them both installed on the C: drive on their own, then go to the folder you put the 2 games and open the exe of that folder directly, and then play them. Then when you get to a menu, go to Options, and make the game use 4 gigs of RAM, and using the menu system, go to Memory and change your memory to 4 gigs, then restart. That will most likely fix the black screen, and alt+tabbing etc. if you get them.
So I actually bought it on Xbox live and received it before the game was released. So I don’t have the original disc and after 4 years I decide to go back to Windows to play it. But first, I have to run the game in compatibility mode. This is what the readme.txt file on the patch says:
